Leonardo has operated in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since 1980. Today, AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation (AWPC) is home to more than 1,000 teammates working across Production, Product Support, Engineering, Supply Chain and Procurement, Training, Sales, and Administration, including full-time employees, contractors, and secondees. Many of our teammates bring firsthand experience in service to our country–approximately 25% of the workforce are veterans–reflecting Leonardo’s enduring commitment to those who have served.
AWPC produces the best-selling AW139 twin-engine helicopter and the AW119 single-engine helicopter. A net exporter, the Philadelphia site has delivered more than 760 American-made helicopters now operating around the world.
Philadelphia is also home to AW609 final assembly, the world’s first civilian tiltrotor. The AW609 has the potential to transform EMS, search and rescue, VIP/executive, and offshore transport missions by combining the vertical lift flexibility of a helicopter with the speed and range of a turboprop aircraft.
In addition to production, AWPC provides customer support, maintenance, and overhaul services for the full Leonardo Helicopters product portfolio, supporting operators throughout North and Central America.
In 2021, Leonardo opened a 60,000-square-foot Training Academy in Philadelphia as part of an $80 million site expansion. The Academy serves pilots and maintenance technicians from across North and Central America and features state-of-the-art classrooms, maintenance training bays, virtual-enhanced training devices, and Level D full-flight simulators for the AW139, AW169, and AW609.
Beyond Philadelphia, Leonardo operates a Blade Repair Center in Broussard, Louisiana, and in Summer 2025 opened a new 73,000-square-foot Florida Support Center at Whiting Aviation Park in Milton, Florida.
The Milton facility is an FAA Part 145–certified Repair Station supporting all AgustaWestland products and significantly expands Leonardo’s U.S. sustainment and MRO capabilities. The site includes:
- Dynamic component overhaul and main gearbox testing
- Airframe and tailboom fixtures
- Dedicated avionics, battery, and structural shops
- A full paint booth
- An integrated logistics hub
The Florida Support Center strengthens Leonardo’s ability to provide responsive, high-quality support to military and commercial operators across North America while reinforcing the company’s long-term investment in U.S. manufacturing, sustainment, and workforce development.
